Merced College is a midsized community college located in California's Central Valley. General Description:

The position located in Los Banos is a full-time, instructional assignment in the Industrial Technology department at Merced College Los Banos campus under the general direction of the Dean of Instruction. This position is generally funded.

The position located in Merced is a full-time, instructional assignment in the Industrial Technology department at Merced College campus under the general direction of the Dean of Instruction. This position is categorically funded.

The assignment includes maintaining a Welding Technology program and lab facility appropriate to current procedures and technologies within the industry. The instructor should be able to teach classes in the following subjects: welding (SMAW-GMAW-GTAW), sheet metal layout and fabrication, basic industrial skills and safety. The standard teaching load is 15 units per semester, which may include evening and weekend hours primarily in Los Banos.

Examples of Duties

  • Provide innovative and effective instruction in accordance with current pedagogy and established course outlines and expectations
  • Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance policies and maintain regular and substantive contact with students
  • Maintain and submit required student attendance and scholastic records on the Learning Management System (e.g. grades and syllabi)
  • Utilize the Learning Management System to deliver, prepare, and grade class assignments and examinations
  • Maintain and utilize effective skills in instructional design, applications, and methods
  • Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy
  • Participate in the development and review of curriculum
  • Participate in the development of teaching-learning methods and materials
  • Participate in departmental, area, and campus professional activities/committees
  • Represent the college within the Merced community and within professional circles
  • Participate in the college's learning outcomes assessment program, including course, program, and institutional assessments


Typical Qualifications

Required:
  • Any bachelor's degree from an acceptable accredited institution AND two (2) years of professional experience in welding OR
  • Any associate degree from an acceptable accredited institution AND six (6) years professional experience in welding OR
  • The equivalent
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Preferred:
  • Master's degree in industrial technology
  • Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD
  • Teaching experience in welding
  • Current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and a willingness to pursue future technological developments
  • Knowledge and experience in SMAW, GMAW and GTAW
  • Knowledge and experience in sheet metal layout and fabrication
  • Knowledge and experience in welding industry basic skills and safety
