Job Summary: Under general supervision the instructor will teach and facilitate student learning in acompetency-based welding program, preparing students for industrial employment andcertifications as required.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Provide instruction and facilitate students learning in Oxy-acetylene welding, shielded
metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding, gas tungsten arc
welding, and blueprint reading (including welding symbols leading to industry
certifications and employment.
2. Accommodate various learning styles, especially hands-on training, not limited to the
classroom.
3. Advise students on the program requirements and their progress through the courses.
Assess students abilities and provide appropriate documentation and feedback.
4. Collaborate with other instructor(s)in the department to aid in development and
coordination of quality classroom activities and curriculum as required.
5. Provide an industry viewpoint to the training program so that students will be prepared
to enter the work force.
6. Keep current on technological advances in welding
7. Support college and SLTC policies and guidelines.
8. Must have good work ethic, punctuality, and attendance habits.
9. Other duties as assigned.1. Become familiar with, and abide by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization.
2. Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
3. Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.
4. Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
5. Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades.
6. Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance. Informs students of progress to date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines.
7. Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
8. Follows and abides by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
9. Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1-2 days).
10. Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
11. Completes all required employee trainings.
12. Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines.
13. Administer ADA accommodations as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience:
1. Seven (7) years full time paid, non-teaching work experience as a journeyman or
equivalent level as a welder. May include a maximum of 1 year welding training other
than "on-the-job-training". (documentation required) OR
2. Associate Degree in related field with 3 years experience in the industry and 4 years
welding experience.
3. Must be a current member of the American Welding Society in good standing.
4. Must be able to read and interpret welding blueprints and know the AWS system of
welding symbols.
5. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the following welding processes: Oxy-
Acetylene Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux Cored Arc
Welding; Gas Tungsten Arc Welding.

Preferred Qualifications: 1. Preferred experience teaching in competency-based adult programs.2. Preferred experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds.3. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.4. Ability to work without close supervision in a team with diverse membership5. Ability to work within a prescribed curriculum and departmental procedures whilemaintaining patience, creativity, and cooperative attitude.6. Basic computer literacy and use, including word processing, internet, and email.7. Journeyman level welding skills using the most common industrial welding processes.8. Work in a team environment and support a variety of instructional delivery formats.9. Current or previous AWS CWI/CWE credentials are not mandatory, but would be apositive attribute. Documentation required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College. The ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
